By this stage Examinations within the syllabus become more popular so we aim to approach the stage whereby the children can take their Grade 1 Tap Exam, if they so wish. Exams are not compulsory and many children just to move up to the next grade, however Welland School of Dancing likes to offer the option of Tap exams to those pupils who are keen to focus on perfecting the syllabus. We believe it’s good for children to study towards exams as it encourages the pupils to practices and perfect the steps, and ultimately work towards a goal.
In Grade 1 Tap, children are introduced to their sense of rhythm with exercises such as Close Work Warm-Up and Close Work Crawl where the children are expected to tap the balls of their feet and their heels in time with the music. Tap encourages self-discipline, self expression, allowing children to develop their listening skills and also encourage children to follow instruction. ISTD Tap helps children learn to work as both an individual and in a group, developing co-ordination, good posture, strength and suppleness, a great sense of rhythm and timing, also a chance to be free with the entertaining music and the ability for the children to use their imaginations and facial expressions.
