This class combines 25 minutes of Modern and 25 minutes of Tap. By this stage Examinations within the syllabus become more popular so we aim to approach the stage whereby the children can take their exams if they so wish. Exams are not compulsory and many children decide just to move up to the next grade, however Welland School of Dancing likes to offer the option of exams to those pupils who are keen to focus on perfecting the syllabus. We believe it’s good for children to study towards exams as it encourages the pupils to practice and perfect the steps, and ultimately work towards a goal. In Grade 1 Modern, children are introduced to their sense of rhythm with exercises such as Walking, Skipping, Jumping and Galloping all designed to help children use their musicality. In Primary Tap children are introduced to how they can use rhythm within the music to tap their feet, also how to use different parts of the feet such as the ‘Ball and Heel beats’ exercise.
Tap and Modern encourage self-discipline, self expression, allowing children to develop their listening skills and also encourage children to follow instruction. ISTD Modern helps children learn to work as both an individual and in a group, developing co-ordination, good posture, strength and suppleness, also a chance to be free with the entertaining music and the ability for the children to use their imaginations and facial expressions.
For Grades 1 - 3 ISTD Modern and Tap, children should wear either a purple or blue lycra leotard with black lycra stirrup leggings.
